1920 Auction of the Earl of Warwick’s land and properties – A. Owen (Rent 5s 1d per week). Lot No. 98a comprising of Nos. 25, 26, 27 and 28 Maynard Terrace.
Fifty six cottages in Maynard Terrace were lotted in groups of three, four, and five but as there were no offers the auction closed and negotiations took place privately for the houses. Several of them together with some of the other lots were withdrawn, were disposed of, and negotiations are proceeding in regard to the others. It should be stated that all the properties are occupied and none of the tenants are under notice to quit. [Bristol Times and Mirror, 27 August 1920].

Lighting Offences – Many Fines Inflicted at Temple Cloud
At the Temple Cloud Police court on Tuesday, the magistrates dealt with a further batch of summonses for offences against the Lighting Restrictions Order, 1939*. the following defendants being fined for failing to obscure light in their dwelling houses so as to prevent the illumination from
being visible outside.

Blackout regulations were imposed on 1 September 1939, before the declaration of war. These required that all windows and doors should be covered at night with suitable material such as heavy curtains, cardboard or paint, to prevent the escape of any glimmer of light that might aid enemy aircraft.

Within Days of his Golden Wedding – Death of Mr. Alfred Owen
Mr. Alfred T. Owen, who had been in indifferent health for a number of years, died on Sept. 5,
aged 74, at his home, 26, Maynard Terrace, Clutton. within a day of his golden wedding.
Mr. Owen. a respected inhabitant of the village, volunteered and served almost throughout the
1914 – 1918 war with the Royal Engineers. The greater part of his working life was spent in the mining and brick making Industries.
The funeral service took place at the Parish Church with the following in attendance: Messrs. J and T. Owen (sons); Mrs. A. H. Church (daughter); Mr. G. Owen and Mr. N. Church (grandsons);

Mr. A. Collins, Mrs. G. Burgess, and Mrs. S. Brimble (nephew and nieces); Mr. N. Harris, Mr. W.
Maule, Mr. D. Bentall, Miss G. Ettle, Mrs. A. Atkins and Mrs. C. Sage.
Mrs. Owen (widow) and Mrs. M. Robbins (daughter) were unable to attend.

Smiles as the Teachers Wed
Miss Mary Robbins, daughter of Mr. Maurice clerk of works to Bristol Corporation, married Mr. Michael Fotherby, housemaster at Kingswood Special Unit, near Bristol, in Augustine's Church,
Clutton, on Saturday.
Mr. Fotherby, aged 21, is the son of Detective Sergeant Donald Fotherby, of Holmfield, Halifax.
Miss Robbins, aged 23, of Maynard Terrace, Clutton, teaches at Connaught Road Infants' School, Knowles Bristol.

Maynard Terrace – It was reported that Wansdyke District Council had started to “make safe” the derelict properties. After discussions it was decided to send a letter to Mr. Clifton regarding Compulsory Purchase Order on these properties. [According to the Register of Electors number 26 Maynard Terrace was “empty” from 1987 to 1991].
