Fifty six cottages in Maynard Terrace were lotted in groups of three, four, and five but as there were no offers the auction closed and negotiations took place privately for the houses. Several of them together with some of the other lots were withdrawn, were disposed of, and negotiations are proceeding in regard to the others. Overloaded Lorries
Drivers Fined At Glastonbury Police Court.
At Glastonbury County Petty Sessions on Monday before Mr. J. C. Moreland and other magistrates.
Edgar Parfitt, Lorry Driver of Maynard’s Terrace, Clutton was summoned for driving a steam waggon with an excessive load.
Mr. T. D. Corpe, of Bristol represented the defendant who pleaded guilty.
P.C. Sloper said on September 12th he was on road motor patrol duty at Ashcott when he saw a four wheeled steam waggon proceeding in the direction of Glastonbury. Its speed was 17 m.p.h. He stopped defendant and ordered him to a weighbridge. The lorry was weighed showing its weight to be 13 tons 6 cwt., 3 qrs. The maximum weight allowed was 12 tons.
Mr. Corpe said there was a provision in the regulations that the lorry could carry up to 14 tons if he did not exceed a speed of 12 m.p.h.
Mr. Corpe said these steam waggons were very heavily penalised by law. They paid in tax £105 a year whereas a petrol lorry with similar carrying capacity paid £30.
He said the owners had decided that it was not economical to continue with the steam waggon and it was now lying idle and Parfitt had been dismissed.
A Fine of 10s was imposed.

Horse-Shoe and Black Kitten – Gifts for the Bridal Pair
Two bridesmaids in pink taffeta attended Miss Rose Gwendolyn Elver, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Elver, of Temple Cloud, when she was married on Christmas Day to Mr. Albert Edgar Tovey, of Maynard Terrace, Clutton.
The ceremony took place at St. Barnabas Church, Temple Cloud, the Rector the Rev. I Westhead officiating.
Given in marriage by her uncle, Mr. L. Cooper, of London, the bride looked charming in a gown of white silk trimmed with diamante, headdress of orange blossom, and veil (lent by a cousin of the bridegroom), with shoes and hose to match. Her bouquet was of white chrysanthemums.
The bridesmaids were Miss Joan Cooper and Miss Freda Barrett, cousins of the bride. Their pink frocks had overdresses of net, and they had headdresses to match. They carried bouquets of white and pink chrysanthemums. The bridegroom’s gifts to them were silver pennants.
A reception was held at Temple Inn Club Room (kindly lent by Mrs. W. Chard), where the bride was formerly employed, after which the happy couple left for their future residence at Maynard Terrace, Clutton.
The bride was presented with a silver horse shoe by little Barbra Harvey, and the bridegroom was given a black kitten.
