Fifty six cottages in Maynard Terrace were lotted in groups of three, four, and five but as there were no offers the auction closed and negotiations took place privately for the houses. Several of them together with some of the other lots were withdrawn, were disposed of, and negotiations are proceeding in regard to the others. Man and Wife Fined for Motoring Offences
Fines totalling £11 were imposed on Clutton man and wife motoring offences, by Temple Cloud magistrates on Wednesday.
The offences occurred on March 23, at Temple Cloud, when the husband, Gordon Samuel Clements
(26), transport driver, of Maynard Terrace, permitted his wife Gladys June Clements, (25),
factory worker of the same address, to drive the car while not the holder of a driving license.
Police Constable G. M. Lindsey of Keynsham told the magistrates that he saw Clements change places with his wife at the wheel of the car after he saw Mrs. Clements driving it. Both admitted the offences and explained that it was the intention for Mrs. Cements to apply for a driving license the next day.
It was explained by Police Inspr. D. Greenfield, that the car was comprehensively insured, but this did not cover Mrs. Clements to drive because at that time she was not and had never been the holder of a driving license.
Mrs. Clements was fined £5 for using the car with no insurance and her husband was also fined £5 for permitting the offence Mrs. Clements also had to pay 10s. for driving without a license and a similar fine was imposed on her husband of aiding and abetting this offence.
