Fifty six cottages in Maynard Terrace were lotted in groups of three, four, and five but as there were no offers the auction closed and negotiations took place privately for the houses. Several of them together with some of the other lots were withdrawn, were disposed of, and negotiations are proceeding in regard to the others. Plenty of Lucky Tokens! – L/Cpl. L. F. Elms Weds Miss B. D. Willcox.

On leaving Clutton Parish Church after her wedding on Saturday, Miss Barbara Doreen Willcox was presented with three horse shoes, five black cats and a heart!

Miss Willcox is the eldest daughter of Mr. Mrs. S. Willcox, of Moorsfield, Clutton, and the bridegroom was Lance-Cpl. Leslie F. Elms. of the Royal Marines. the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Elms, of Maynard Terrace. Clutton.

The Rev. J. Mansfield (rector) officiated.

The bride, given in marriage by brother, Mr. Kenneth J. Willcox, wore a dress of satin beaute with embroidered tulle veil, and a bouquet of dark red roses. The best man was Mr. J. Elms (brother of the bridegroom).

Her retinue Miss Molly Willcox (sister the bride who was chief bridesmaid, also Mis Joyce Elms (sister of the bridegroom). Miss Peggy Elms the Misses Margaret and Janet Shearn (cousins of the bride).

The elder bridesmaids wore dresses of pink crepe with halos mauve, and the small one, Janet, wore a flowered lemon silk dress of blue halo

M a s t e r Aubrey Willcox. (brother of the bride). who acted as page, wore a blouse of white morocain with ankle-length velvet trousers. The bridesmaids all wore silver shoes and carried bouquets of sweet peas and scabious to tone, and their silver bracelets were the gifts of the bridegroom.

A company of over 80 attended the reception held in the Miners' Welfare Hall, Clutton, and the couple received some 50 useful presents. including a canteen of fruit spoons and forks from bride's workmates at Purnells Ltd.. Paulton.

Cows on Highway Without Light

For driving cows on the highway at night without a light at the rear, Edward John Elms, of 53, Maynard Terrace, Clutton, was fined 10S. at Temple Cloud Police Court on Wednesday and, for permitting the offence, Alfred John Maggs, of Churchlands Farm, Clutton, had to pay 5s.

Adjourned for a Month

At a matrimonial sitting of Temple Cloud magistrates on Wednesday, Mrs. Peggy Emily Caroline Brimble, of 53, Maynard Terrace, Clutton, applied for a maintenance order for herself and her eight months-old daughter, against her husband, Mr. Samuel Brimble, of the Council Houses, Stratton-on-the-Fosse, who, it was alleged, had failed to maintain them since November, 1950.

The couple. who were married in August, 1949. each gave evidence.

The chairman. Mr. E. F. Rees Mogg. said: "It is quite clear that this is one of those cases where services of the Probation Officer is most valuable. We are going to adjourn the case tor a month, in the meantime treat the Probation Officer as your best friend."

Funeral of Mr. F. H. Elms

The funeral took place on Monday of Mr. Francis Herbert Elms (54), of 53 Maynard Terrace, Clutton, who died on November 23 at Cambrook House, after a long illness.

The service at St. Augustine’s Church was conducted by the Rev. J. Daniel.Chief mourners were the wife and children and other relatives and friends.
